May 30th Graduation Celebration,
Seniors will be invited to dress in their Cap and Gown, decorate their car, and report to the LHS student parking that morning. Parents and sibling are encouraged to ride in the car with their graduate. At 10:00 a.m. we will have a graduation procession where each student will drive across the front driveway of the high school. Dr. Kent Messer will be announcing names via a speaker system and students will receive their diploma and be congratulated by Dr. Goddard and myself.
After being congratulated, students and their families will embark on a parade route that runs through a few LISD neighborhoods as well as each LISD campus. Teachers will be parked at each campus and encouraged to decorated vehicles, and make signage to support our graduates. We will also share the route with our community so they can make yard signs, cheer from their front yard, or even park a car along the parade route to honk for our graduates. We have been in initial conversation with the Lucas Fire Department and Fairview PD to have their support and participation and they have been very receptive.
The route will conclude back at the LHS student parking lot where kids stay in their cars but get a chance to see and congratulate one another while still observing social distancing.
I will share more specifics (time to arrive, parking assignments, diagram of traffic flow, etc…) in the coming weeks.
Since we will not be having our originally scheduled graduation at the Allen Event Center, any family who has already paid for a suite rental will automatically be refunded by the AEC in the next two weeks. If those families have any questions, they can call the Allen Events Center and ask for Randell Holmes.
Please also mark your calendars for July 25th. We are also planning a more traditional ceremony at the LHS Football Field for graduates and their immediate families on this date if restrictions allow.
Other Senior Activities
Beginning next Monday, April 27th, and continuing each week through May 25th, I will announce a weekly activity intended to honor our Seniors. Many of these activities will be the traditional Senior events that take place each year. Some activities like our Senior Letter Writing Campaign (week of April 27th) will ask for participation from parents and community. Other events like our Senior Signing Day will be created by our Seniors and then shared with parents and community virtually. I hope that you will actively support these events through participation when possible and by watching/posting/re-posting them when they are productions. Look for more information on Monday about the Senior Letter Writing campaign.
Our Senior Booster Club will also be sharing information with parents and kids this week regarding their Baccalaureate and Senior Dinner events.
I am thrilled about the opportunities we have over the next 6 weeks to honor our Seniors in new and creative ways. I invite you to join in these school events as well as finding some of your own as we celebrate the Class of 2020.
