Superintendent of Schools Katie Kordel

Following an extensive interview process with more than 50 candidates, the Lovejoy ISD Board of Trustees unanimously approved Katie Kordel as Superintendent of the Lovejoy Independent School District on June 15, 2021.

Mrs. Kordel joined Lovejoy ISD following two decades as a leader in education in North Texas. Most recently, Mrs. Kordel served as the Chief Innovation and Strategic Initiatives Officer for Allen ISD, with prior years spent in various roles for Frisco ISD including Middle School Principal, Director of Secondary Instruction, Chief Academic Officer, and Deputy Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction. Mrs. Kordel began her career as a biology teacher in 1999.

Upon her hire as Lovejoy ISD Superintendent of Schools, Kordel stated, "I am incredibly honored by the opportunity to serve as Lovejoy ISD’s superintendent. As an educator, and parent, I have admired Lovejoy ISD and community for years. Lovejoy is synonymous with excellence and high achievement. The deep level of commitment to putting students first and stakeholder investment are just two of the many things that make Lovejoy ISD special. I am committed to honoring the rich traditions of Lovejoy ISD while taking strategic actions to safeguard our future. I look forward to working in close collaboration with our students, team, parents, and community members."

Mrs. Kordel has identified three areas of focus: developing future-ready students, building upon Lovejoy ISD’s legacy of excellence, and achieving financial sustainability.

Board President Barrett Owens shares, “We have great confidence in Katie’s vision and ability to execute strategically. Katie’s dedication to a student-centered, collaborative culture characterized by integrity and respect is ideal for Lovejoy and we feel fortunate to have her as our new leader. The future of Lovejoy ISD with Katie as our superintendent has never been brighter!”

Mrs. Kordel is married to husband, Jeff, and is mom to 8-year old twins, Jacob and Claire, who attend Lovejoy’s Puster Elementary School.
