Due to the significant heat expected this evening, tonight’s football scrimmage times have been adjusted. Freshman and JV teams will begin at 6:30 PM and Varsity will begin at 7:30 PM. This adjustment is being made out of an abundance of caution as we prioritize the safety and well-being of our students.
In addition to moving the start time, we will have our normal heat-related safety precautions in place, including, but not limited to:
Additional breaks throughout the scrimmage
-Limiting the number of plays
-Misters available on the sidelines
-Cold towels for students
-Additional locker rooms open for access to air conditioning
-Close monitoring of students for signs of heat-related illness
We will also have additional precautions in place for our cheerleaders to help ensure all of our students remain safe and comfortable in the heat.

Congratulations to Andrew James, Lovejoy High School Class of 2022, who was recently named a 2026 Merrill Presidential Scholar at Cornell University—one of the university’s highest honors for graduating seniors! ❤️🐆
As part of the recognition, Andrew selected Nathan Lewis, his percussion teacher throughout his years at Sloan Creek, Willow Springs and Lovejoy High School, as an educator who made a lasting impact on his journey. Through the program, a STAR Scholarship will also be established in Mr. Lewis’ honor to support future Cornell students with financial need from Andrew’s high school or hometown.
Andrew continues to make an impact beyond the classroom. He recently earned the Grand Prize in the 2026 Farm Robotics Challenge for his team’s autonomous weed-eliminating robot and is now the Founder and CEO of Rootline Robotics.

A Lovejoy family visiting Lovejoy ISD? We had to share this story!
Last week, Superintendent Katie Kordel had the pleasure of meeting 10 year old Lucas Lovejoy and his family all the way from North Dakota!
Why make the trip? Two very special reasons:
📍 Their family name is Lovejoy, and they wanted to visit the school district that shares it.
📍 After months of research for a school project, Lucas kept discovering one district that consistently stood out for excellence, Lovejoy ISD.
The family visited the Administration Building (the original school house), learned about Lovejoy's history, and experienced firsthand what makes our schools and community so special.
Who knows? Lucas and his brother just might become official Lovejoy Leopards one day!
Thank you, Lucas, for your curiosity, enthusiasm, and for convincing your family to make the journey. As he proudly held up the double "L" on his way out, Lucas said it best:

Before the first day of school: Please check your student's meal account balance and add funds if needed.

Transaction fee: $3.75 per online payment
Maximum transaction amount: $240 per transaction
Fund transfers: If you have multiple students in Lovejoy ISD, Student Nutrition can transfer funds between siblings upon request.
No-fee payment option: Checks are accepted by cafeteria cashiers with no transaction fee.
